Happy 30th anniversary to CNN! On June 1st 1980 Ted Turner started Cable News Network/ CNN - based on the worldwide network of 24 hour news. Today, CNN can be watched from practically all corners of the globe. And from Larry King (interviews) to Wolf Blitzer (The Situation Room, political news, anchor) to Christiane Amanpour (formerly Middle East/international news, now anchor) to Anderson Cooper (international correspondent) to Richard Quest (business) to Jonathan Mann (Political Mann, anchor) - its hosts are household names for anyone interested in world news.
Although ratings at CNN have gone down within the past year, with the very right wing - and highly opinionated - channel of Fox News gaining ratings in prime time in the USA, CNN is often the first news channel choice for world travellers. Sadly, the PN editor-in-chief is unable to receive CNN at the current HQ due to satellite connection problems - as from March 2010. But tries to catch the cable news when travelling abroad. Greetings for Ted Turner and everybody at CNN!
